Colour trends for spring

After having spent many seasons with stark white walls or having moved into a home with dark or brightly coloured walls you could give your home a new lease of life by repainting and adding some new colours and tones to your home. Painting is one of the simplest ways to create a change to your home with the least amount of expense and effort compared to tiling or wall-papering. Here are some ideas to incorporate the latest trendy colours for spring and summer taking the cue from international fashion and decor trends...

PINK: Mention spring and many people immediately think of pink and tones of pink and white. Always a popular choice for children’s rooms along with blues and lilac, pink is the colour of Sakura blossoms and in October many people are wearing pink in solidarity with breast cancer awareness. While you might not want to paint all your walls pink, white walls with pink accessories can incorporate this colour into your home without overwhelming the senses too much. Muted lilac is also a great choice as it allows elements of both pink and blue to be included in your decor.

BLUE: Blue skies make us think of sunshine and getting out into the garden. Blue is a very relaxing colour, making it popular both in muted tones for walls or as an accent colour. In kitchens consider adding elements of blue to a traditional white kitchen to give it a French provincial flair. The colour can be carried through with items like curtains, blinds, or even tiles adding calm to an area of the home that often is the central hub, especially in the mornings and evenings.

GREEN: Finally green is truly the ultimate colour of spring, and nature. All shades of green can add something interesting to most spaces. Not popular as a paint for walls it is a lovely option for pain effects especially in children's rooms and areas where you want to have the tranquility of a cool toned colour but perhaps don't feel like the calming effect of blue. Green has a stimulating effect which increases people's thinking and can increase productivity which is why it was so popular in our school days as a colour for chalkboards.
