UPDATE: UKZN students and management on the same page

"It is safe to say that all the issues that are in the memorandum have been addressed." - Lesiba Seshoka

FOLLOWING ongoing consultation between university management and student leadership, consensus has been reached on all of the concerns raised by students in their memorandum to university management.

“The parties have agreed that all of the short-term matters raised will be addressed immediately and that there will be ongoing consultation on all long-term matters raised,” said the universities Lesiba Seshoka.

Student leadership agreed to communicate the consensus reached to the rest of the student body by the end of Monday, 5 October.

Seshoka said that he hoped that this will ensure that there will be no more disruption to academic activities.

President Jacob Zuma condemned vandalism associated with student protests in a recent meeting in Pretoria on Tuesday, 6 October with the leadership of South Africa’s universities.

The five students who were arrested in connection with the strike action appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court recently; two students were denied bail and charges against the other three’s charges were dropped.
