Childhood education course to improve lives

Women benefit from early childhood education course.

Women from communities around the Pinetown area who took part in a three-month Early Childhood Education training course were awarded their certificates at a celebratory morning at Christ Church in Pinetown.

The outreach programme was run by Fikile Mnguni from the House of Harvest family church and gave the women a chance to learn skills that can be used to better their income and help their own communities.

They met once a week at the church and were educated in child stimulation, hygiene, nutrition, child-centred education and how to run successful, safe daycare, créche or aftercare facility.

“We want them to take back the skills and competencies they learnt into their communities to help themselves, their churches and community. There is a great need for safe, well -run childcare facilities in the communities,” said Mnguni.

She is also appealing for businesses, church leaders and individuals to help sponsor women who can’t afford to pay to do the course. Families are also encouraged to enrol their domestic workers to improve their child-minding skills.

The next course will start soon and will run every Saturday for three months from The Bell Hall at Christ Church, Pinetown. Contact Fikike Mnguni on 061 421 0618 or at legacyforyou505@gmail.com.
