Thieves steal R35 000 worth of church equipment

The church is planning to reinforce security to ensure that this does not happen again.

A SECURITY guard is in a coma after sustaining serious injuries following an armed robbery that took place at the crack of dawn at the International House of Prayer in Bellair on Wakesleigh Road.

At around 4am on Tuesday, 25 August, Pastor Johan Brits said the church’s security company responded to a call that five men had robbed the church and had badly injured McFelix Kenneth, the security guard who was on duty for the night.

“Our security company came around at about 4am and found that the security guard who was on duty had been stabbed a couple of times and the place had been robbed,” he said. Kenneth was stabbed and hit on his head and was due for a brain scan later on that afternoon.

“They stole an audio mixer, speakers and two monitors, all of which amounted to R35 000,” he added. Brits said police were investigating the matter he appealed to the public with any information to contact the police or report anyone who might try to sell them the above-mentioned equipment.

The church plans on reinforcing security to ensure that this does not happen again. “We hope that these criminals repent,” said Brits.

The Bellair SAPS said a case was opened and investigations are pending. Anyone with information related to this incident may contact Pastor Brits directly on 082 668 7939 or Bellair SAPS on 031 451 2826.
