Small businesses given a platform to shine

Clermont regional business fair was a joint initiative by eThekwini Municipality’s business support, tourism and other stakeholders.

THE first ever Clermont regional business fair was held last weekend where small businesses exhibited their work.

The fair was held at the Clermont Sports Auditorium and the aim was to expose and position small businesses.

Deputy mayor and chairperson of the economic development and planning committee, Cllr Nomvuzo Shabalala, said, “We decided to extend the business fair to regions where most small businesses are situated because they have proven to be the greatest solution to socio-economic challenges and enhancing township economic growth.”

The exhibiton ran simultaneously with the two-day business indaba, aimed at providing relevant business information and sharpening entrepreneurs’ skills.

Business people had an opportunity to showcase their products and services to quality buyers and potential investors.

“It is important for everyone to support locally-manufactured goods because by doing so that means we are all contributing to the city’s economy rather than enriching other countries,” said Shabalala.

Clermont regional business fair was a joint initiative by eThekwini Municipality’s business support, tourism and markets unit and KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs to rejuvenate the township economy through capacitating and better positioning small businesses to be competitive and sustainable in order to create jobs and alleviate poverty.
