Be safe during load shedding

Pinetown SAPS shares tips on how to avoid being a crime victim during load shedding.

AS the country is facing an energy crisis, Pinetown SAPS has provided few tips for residents to keep their homes safe during load shedding.

Cst Phindile Radebe, Pinetown SAPS communications officer, said people should be cautious during load shedding times as criminals could use the time table as a guide to target certain areas during power outages.

“Home owners and businesses need to ensure that their electric fence continues to function during the power outages; have a backup battery for all electric fences and test your alarm system regularly to ensure it is in full working condition.

She said it is also a good idea to always ensure that houses are well-lit during load shedding.”

A good way to do this is to install battery-operated lights, and torches and lights should also be kept in the house and car.

“Place candles and torches in various easily accessible locations,” said Radebe.
