Lucky escape for Pinetown woman

A resident urges those who walk to work to be extra cautious.

A PINETOWN mother of two was lucky to escape with minor injuries when she fell into a lane of oncoming traffic while trying to escape from a robber.

Thirty-eight-year-old Lindiwe Radebe was walking to her place of employment around 4:45am last Thursday when she noticed a man following her at the intersection of Underwood and Entebeni Roads.

She increased her pace and the man continued following her. She began to run in an attempt to escape, and fell into the road and was almost hit by a taxi.

Radebe, who has been working in the deli section of SPAR in Underwood Road for four years, said when she woke up, she noticed the man had disappeared after fleeing on foot past the railway line area.

Fortunately none of Radebe’s possessions were taken, but this is not the first time she had been almost mugged at the same location. “Taxis don’t travel on the road that I live on. Therefore, walking to work is my only option. I would like to warn other people who also walk to work during the early hours of the morning to avoid carrying any valuables that may attract criminals. Once these criminals attack their targets, they escape by running over the railway line,” she said.

Radebe sustained bruises and injuries to her knee and had to receive medical treatment following the incident.
