A differing perspective on the Second Avenue church

"What your writer fails to realise is that the church is operating illegally and was to cease at a hearing which I attended."

EDITOR – I am outraged to read the letter from M Clark in the Highway Mail, Friday, 24 July. Firstly, this is not a little church, it has 150 members and park at one count 35 cars in the garden.

What your writer fails to realise is that the church is operating illegally and was to cease at a hearing which I attended. I am not sure where the Clarks live, but I live right next door and the neighbour on the other side has it even worse with the noise and cars in and out all day Saturday and Sundays when they bring children and do marching, and the shouting is unacceptable.

If they had a two-hour service, as most churches do, we could put up with it. I do think the Clarks should spend a church day in our homes: we have no privacy; they collect at walls, talking loudly; and during summer I have had to keep doors and windows closed in an attempt to block out the noise.

There were 13 residents who objected, for the record. I also felt the article in last week’s Highway Mail was not a true reflection of the problem.
