Business owners tackle rubbish pile-up

Botha's Hill business owners are determined to keep their area clean.

LONG-term dumping could lead to many disadvantages other than being an eyesore.

Unfortunately, for many years many of the businesses in Botha’s Hill have used the valley behind structures on the north side of the Old Main Road as a rubbish dump.

Botha’s Hill business owners, Elsa and Mark Fraser, recently had to clean up mountains of rubbish which has been problematic for years at a building they recently started leasing.

It has taken them weeks to get the area cleaned out and rubbish-free.”The rubbish was so high that it had covered up the fence,” said Fraser.

The previous owners had used the backyard as a dumping area, which had also aided numerous break-ins into the property.

“Thieves would use the valley where the rubbish was to get onto the property,” said Mark Fraser.

Mark also said that the refuse is not good for business, “The business should reflect us because we like to keep things neat,” he added.

The Frasers plan to seal the bottom of the front fencing to ensure rubbish doesn’t blow into the property, as they mention that is one of the other causes of the rubbish pile-up they have to deal with on a daily basis.
