WIN: Prime Circle to warm up Durban audiences

Rock bands, Prime Circle and Shortstraw, will share the stage at the Durban Botanic Garden's Music at the Lake concert this Sunday, 19 July.

DURBAN audiences are in for a real treat when Prime Circle performs at the Old Mutual Music at the Lake concert at the Durban Botanic Gardens on Sunday, 19 July.

The Witbank rockers will be supported on the day by the equally-sizzling Johannesburg indie rock band, Shortstraw.

These regular open-air picnic concerts have become a popular local drawcard, enabling Durbanites to enjoy their city’s beautiful indigenous gardens while experiencing some high-calibre home-grown vibes from the country’s premier music acts.

And Prime Circle certainly fits that description. In addition to topping charts, releasing six studio albums and winning multiple awards, they are regarded as one of South Africa’s most electrifying live acts. Members, Ross Learmonth (guitar and vocals), Marco Gomes (bass), Dale Schnettler (drums), Neil Breytenbach (keyboards) and Dirk Bisschoff (guitar), deliver high-octane performances crammed with the many hits they have amassed over a career spanning an incredible 14 years – one that shows no signs of slowing down.

Five-piece outfit, Shortstraw – consisting of Alastair Thomas (lead vocals and guitar), Tom Revington (lead guitar), Gad de Combes (keyboard and backing vocals), Russell Grant (bass) and Jake Rubinstein (drums) – are fast building an avid fanbase as one of the country’s leading indie (or, as they term it, ‘indie-bele’) rock acts.

Gates open at noon for pre-sold tickets, which cost R140 for adults, available through www.webtickets.co.za, and at 12.30 for on-the-day ticket sales at R160 each. Children aged eight to 12 pay R60, those under eight get in free. Shortstraw takes to the stage at 1.30pm, followed by Prime Circle at 3pm. Take along your cooler boxes, picnic baskets and blankets or buy refreshments at the venue.
