Pregnant woman threatened during robbery

A Westville woman and her unborn baby were lucky to escape a robbery unharmed.

A PREGNANT Westville woman and her unborn child are lucky to be alive after she begged the two men who entered her home on Wednesday night to not harm her or her baby.

According to media reports, the woman, who is now considering relocating, said she was in her lounge when she heard her dogs barking. When she looked out the window she noticed one of the two men crawling through the garden. She screamed at him and ran into the bedroom, where she pressed the panic button.

The expectant mom, believed to be 26 years old, stated that when she walked back to check, she saw the two men open the kitchen door and start kicking down the security gate.

The men questioned the woman to find out where the plasma TV was, as well as her bag and cellphone. The men also removed a taser which she had in her possession and threatened to use it against her if she failed to co-operate.

After about five minutes the men escaped with the woman’s car. The report also mentioned that a month ago, a group of men had been waiting for the woman at her home, but she had been able to jump into her car and escape.

Communications officer for the Westville SAPS, Sergeant Stephen Clark, said, “At approximately 5:20pm the complainant was at home at her residence in Victoria Crescent, Berea West when she noticed two unknown suspects walking in her yard. The suspects gained entry to the house via the rear entrance and the complainant was confronted.
“Among the items stolen were a laptop and other personal electronic equipment. The suspects fled with the complainant’s vehicle, a grey Ford Fiesta.”
The Westville SAPS responded swiftly and the vehicle was recovered in Mayville. Clark further added that the vehicle and crime scene were examined for fingerprints and a follow up investigation will be conducted.
