PBHS bags a point against Maritzburg College

In the end, the score finished at 2-1 to the home team, PBHS.

PINETOWN Boys’ High School had the privilege of hosting Maritzburg College’s first team in a second term league fixture.

Eight minutes from the kick-off, Pinetown Boys’ scored their first goal off a corner set piece at back post with Siyabonga Msomi being left unmarked to score using the head.

The Maritzburg College team had height and build, making it all the more stranger that they would concede such a goal, especially since the Pinetown side is lacking in the height department.

The game then settled into a cagey affair as both sides tried to impose themselves on the game.

Shortly before half-time, goal keeper, Thabiso Pakkies, made about four saves within two minutes, including a double save and a penalty stop. This ensured that PBHS found a new sense of hope in this being their day. It also prevented the mental edge going towards PMB College at a crucial stage of the game.

The score at the half-time break was 1-0 in favour of the home team.

The second half took some time to get entertaining. Like two boxers out on their feet after trading a series of blows, PMB College traded back-to-back blows with PBHS, until the moment that saw momentum shift further in the direction of Pinetown.

Twenty minutes into second half, Sanele Khanyile scored a goal when he faced a one-on-one opportunity after receiving a finely-threaded through ball, which left him with just the keeper to beat and an easy tap in.

This was not to be the final say in the game as Maritzburg managed to score with eight minutes to play in the game, making things tense and bringing about a sense of uneasiness to the finish.

In the end, the score finished at 2-1 to the home team, PBHS. PMB College showed their mental toughness in playing till the last whistle. These two sides will meet again in the near future. The game will be one to watch.
