Sports equipment needed for rural youth programmes

Do you have any sports equipment lying around that you no longer need?

Durban Green Corridor is looking for second-hand or sponsored sporting equipment for their rural youth sports programmes.

The programmes run in communities all over Durban from Inanda to Mkhizwana, Briardene, KwaDabeka and into the more rural parts of the uMngeni Valley, and hold enormous value for the children who participate as very often the rural schools don’t offer extracurricular or organised sporting activities.

“Sport is a particularly good way of engaging young people from informal settlements and rural communities and to encourage them to take part in organised activities. Once the children come together, enjoyable outdoor activities are linked with ecological understanding, an appreciation of clean nature and the opportunity to learn valuable life skills. The children love it, for many it is a highlight of their day,” said Duncan Pritchard from Durban Green Corridor marketing.

The equipment that they are looking for includes soccer balls, cricket sets, rugby balls, board games, field athletics equipment (javelins, discus, relay batons), hula hoops, moveable netball and basket ball hoops, hockey equipment, skipping ropes and team aprons.

Contact Duncan on 083 225 5960 or marketing@durbangreencorridor.co.za.

eNanda Adventures at Inanda Dam offers the children a range of after-school sporting events and coaching from mountain biking to athletics.
