Bird identified as gymnogene

Resident identifies eagle.

FOLLOWING last week’s article on the call made by residents for the relocation of eagles, the bird in the picture that was spotted in the Ashley area has been identified as an immature gymnogene.

According to Keith Burckard, who contacted the Highway Mail to share his knowledge, he has noticed these birds in the area over the past 12 years. “These birds are often seen in Ashley and surrounding areas, as well as both sides of the N3 highway. They either get their food from birds nests or they eat lizards, rats, mice or any small rodents. Since winter is approaching, it makes it difficult for them to find more and that is the reason they are turning to easy prey.”
