THE incidences of death by drowning may well be lessened in future, according to Northdene Elite Swimming Club Aquatic Reserve’s (NESCAR) head swimming instructor, Ryane Wheeler.

In the efforts to empower the community about water safety and the know-how of enjoying safe swimming, Northdene Preparatory School has introduced new programmes for its learners.

“Death by drowning is extremely common, especially in a country like South Africa where people have pools in their homes and the ocean is just a drive away,” he said.

Wheeler, who is also the newly-appointed swimming instructor at the school, said that by offering services such as these to the community of Queensburgh, cases of children drowning in the area will reduce.

Northedene Preparatory School, together with NESCAR, will offer learners lessons for all ages and stages, from beginners’ safety right through to teaching the correct and professional stroke techniques.

“South Africa has never failed to display its true talent in swimming. I believe that by offering the Learn To Swim and Stroke Correction programmes at the NESCAR Elite Club Training in Queensburgh, we will soon reveal the true talent hiding within it,” said Wheeler.

Furthermore, the school has installed new heaters in the pool to ensure that these swimming programmes can be sustained throughout the year.
