One dead in weekend accidents

A seven-year-old boy was among the seven people who were injured in weekend accidents.

A SEVEN-year-old boy was among the seven people who were injured in three separate accidents on the weekend.

One accident happened on Friday evening, where two cars collided on the M13 Durban-bound near Blair Atholl off-ramp in Westville.

One person was killed and another sustained moderate injuries.

Santi Steinmann from Netcare 911 said paramedics and other services arrived at the scene and found that a car and light delivery vehicle were involved in the accident.

“The car overturned and came to a standstill almost on top of the barrier, while the light delivery vehicle came to a standstill quite a distance from the roadway on the field area next to the road. Upon assessment of the occupants, paramedics found a man in a critical condition and a woman who had sustained serious injuries during the accident,” said Steinmann.

Both patients were treated at the scene and transported to hospital, and the critically-injured man died shortly after he arrived.

On Saturday, four people were injured in Old Main Road, Hillcrest in an accident involving two cars.

According to Steinmann, two cars sustained frontal damage during the collision. “Paramedics found one occupant from one of the cars was injured. The driver of the second car was seriously injured, while a passenger and seven-year-old boy sustained minor to moderate injuries,” he said.

All four injured were treated at the scene and transported to hospital.

Paramedics also attended to another accident on the M13 just past Everton Road towards Pinetown when a car with a trailer jack-knifed and overturned. Netcare 911 paramedics found that the vehicle and trailer came to a standstill on the road, obstructing one of the lanes of the roadway.

Two men were injured in the accident. They were both treated at the scene and transported to hospital. The causes of the accidents are still not known at this stage – police will investigate.
