Don’t give to street beggars, warns Hillcrest SAPS

Police have issued a warning to people to refrain from supporting people who beg in the Hillcrest CBD.

THE Hillcrest SAPS has issued a warning to motorists and residents to not give money to men who beg at robots in the Hillcrest CBD. In a media statement issued earlier today by SA CAN, it states some of these men in the CBD have been arrested for incidents of housebreaking.

If you wish to support the homeless, you are urged you to donate to a reputable charity, as giving money through your window while driving is an unnecessary risk and attracts the attention of criminals.

Meanwhile, incidents of petty theft at a Waterfall mall have also been reported. According to the statement, opportunistic thieves have been active in the area, stealing cellphones off counters and personal belongings out of unguarded handbags. Arrests have been made. Shoppers are urged to be vigilant and keep an eye on their possessions at all times.
