WITH the long weekend upon us, residents are encouraged to follow a few safety tips while shopping, to prevent becoming another crime statistic. Here is a list of tips:
– You must always be observant and aware of the people around you in the mall and in the parking lot.
– Avoid being alone around opening and closing times at high-target stores.
– If you notice any suspicious behaviour, report your observations to centre management or a representative at the information desk.
– If you are confronted by a robber, hand over your possessions as your life is more important and cannot be replaced. Try to remain calm, don’t act aggressively and obey their instruction.
– You are encouraged to not confront anyone by yourself, as robbers could be armed.
Family members who plan on going to different parts of the mall are also urged to discuss how and where they will reunite in the event of robbery. You might not have your cellphone, so discussing a plan of action will assist.
