Pinetown Mortuary staff on a go-slow

KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health said it is working on an arrangement to make sure that the go-slow in KZN mortuaries does not affect services delivery.

PINETOWN Mortuary is among the three KZN morgues that are on a ‘go-slow’. The other morgues includes the Magwaza Maphalala (Gale) Street and Stanger mortuaries.

Pinetown Mortuary receives 30 to 50 bodies a week.

It is reported that the industrial action began last Thursday when workers claimed the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health had failed to pay money due to them.

Sam Mkhwanazi from the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health said the department has noted with regret that there are signs of a ‘go-slow’ at mortuaries in Gale Street in Durban, Pinetown and Stanger.

“However, the department is working on an arrangement to refer cases to mortuaries around Durban and other areas to ensure that service delivery is not affected,” he said.
