Storm couldn’t dampen Watercrest Mall launch

The storm didn't ruin guests from making the most of the situation.

The VIP launch of the new Watercrest Mall on 26 March certainly was an exciting one, as a raging storm and torrential rain threatened to put an early end to the festivities.

Not to be defeated by the weather, guests made the most of the evening, which included VIP guests MEC Belinda Scott, MEC Willies Mchunu and Councillor Logie Naidoo, among others.

Guests were able to tour the new mall, which will open on 23 April, before being entertained by local entertainment, Hyena Blue.

This R700-million development is the brainchild of local family property business, The Rowles Group, and JSE-listed property fund, Acucap.

Impressive construction statistics include 6.35 million bricks used, 4 530 tons of reinforcing, 72 000 squares metres of plaster, 665 days of work from the start of project phase one and total number of staff on site at peak times 1 100.

“Watercrest Mall is earmarked to be a serious player in Durban’s retail sector,” said Elizabeth Roux, Marketing Manager for Watercrest Mall.
