Dealer arrested in gun-for-drugs sting

A suspected drug dealer was arrested following a sting operation in Malvern on Wednesday.

SWIFT action by police and a private security company secured the arrest of a suspected drug dealer in Malvern on Wednesday.

Marshall Security reported that its special operations team took part in a successful sting operation on Wednesday night in Malvern, which resulted in a suspected drug dealer being arrested.

The sting operation was set up in collaboration with Durban Metro Police’s K9 unit after they received information that an alleged drug dealer had received a firearm from someone in exchange for drugs.

According to Marshall’s Tyron Powell, it was discovered that the person who had supplied the gun to the drug dealer
had stolen the firearm from his grandfather to exchange it for crack cocaine.

When confronted, the grandson confessed that he exchanged the gun for drugs.

“The sting operation was then planned by our SOT, in conjunction with Durban Metro’s K9 Unit, by setting up a meeting with the suspect to purchase the gun from him. When the suspect arrived at the agreed-upon location in Malvern he was apprehended and found to be in possession of drugs and the missing firearm,”Powell added.

The man was arrested and taken to Malvern Police Station.
