ON the topic of the Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand recently, the Highway Mail asked local cricket lovers what they thought of the global showpiece.
Zahir Patel: “My favourite team is South Africa. I hope that they will win the 2015 World Cup. My favourite players are Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers.”
Edward Mkhutshwa: “I believe that India will take the trophy as they won the 2011 World Cup. I believe they are the strong team and I would bet R50-million that they will again this year.”
Sizwe Basi: “I am behind South Africa, 100 per cent. The Proteas are going to win. Our team is very good at batting, and in the games that I have watched the boys look promising.”
Zanane Reddy: “Obviously India will take it. Cricket is the only thing that they are good at it. The South African side, on the other hand, needs more training.”
Ryan Naidoo: “I do not think South Africa will win. The cup will go to Australia or India. South Africa is good but not that good, even the West Indies team has got a better chance than the Proteas.”
Ken Wilson: “South Africa is going to win. We are number one in the world, not India. Although our team is a bit shaky we will bring the cup home.”
Val Peckham: “I believe that South Africa has got a fighting chance. I am a South African so I should support the Proteas. I am rooting for them. My favourite player is AB de Villiers.”
Sharon Pretorius: “South Africa is going to win, they are a good team. I am confident that they will take the cup. I support them all the way.”
