Fire sparks temporary closure at KFC Westville

The KFC franchise has been closed until further notice.

A BLAZE that swept through the roof of KFC in Westville on Friday night has led to the temporary closure of the privately-owned franchise.

According to western areas division commander, Sibusiso Dlamini, his brigade received a call about the fire around 11.55pm. When they arrived at the scene the roof was already engulfed in flames and thick smoke.

“The brigade managed to contain the fire within minutes; however, they were unable to establish the cause of the fire. Luckily, no one was injured,” said Dlamini.

He said although the cause of the fire is still unknown at this stage, he heard a rumour that there was load shedding in the area just before the fire started. However, he quickly dispelled the rumour, saying there was no evidence to prove that load shedding had a role in the fire.

The KFC is still closed until further notice.

Staff at the KFC were seen cleaning the kitchen equipment outside the building on Sunday morning, but refused to comment about what happened.

The franchisee could not be reached for comment.
