Biker, truck driver survive M7 collision

The motorcyclist was flung off his motorbike before the bike was shredded to pieces.

A TRUCK driver and motorcyclist escaped serious injuries when their vehicles collided on the M7  last night (Wednesday 26 November).

According to Scot Fordyce, a Pine-Ridge Neighbourhood Watch patroller, who was called to the scene of the accident, the truck was travelling on the M7 eastbound from Pinetown to Queensburgh.

“The truck lost control and hit a pizza delivery motorbike on its side on the westbound carriageway. The motorcyclist was flung off his motorbike before the bike was shredded to pieces.

“The truck then crossed the median, overturned and ended up on its side on the bank of the east bound carriageway,” said Fordyce.

The motorcyclist escaped with a wrist injury however his motorbike was split in half – the engine block was on one side and the back suspension and wheel landed on the median.

The truck was on its side leaking diesel into a bush however all emergency services, including the Pine-Ridge Neighbourhood Watch, patrollers, SA Can, SAPS, Metro and ER24 were radioed to the scene and the clean-up began promptly.
