Ulundi residents march on Eskom

Ulundi residents are tired of Eskom's empty promises.

OVER a hundred angry residents who apparently came all the way from the Ezingqunyaneni area in Ulundi, marched to Eskom distribution in New Germany, claiming Eskom has failed them.

The protestors, including pupils and elderly people said they wanted to get answers from Eskom as they have tried to get help with no success.

Vumelani Ngubane, chairman of the Ezingqunyaneni development committee said in August, Eskom gave them hope that they will have electricity as they had started with the process in August.

“They were suppose to return and put up poles but were told that there is no budget.

Ngubane said in 2004, their area was also left out when Ulundi municipality installed electricity.

“We were told that we were left out by mistake and our problem will be sorted before 2011 and it’s now 2014. The schools in the area have no electricity, we are suffering, we hope that coming to the head office will sort out our problem,” he said.

Sifiso Mazibuko, KZN’s general manager for Eskom’s operating unit who accepted the memorandum promised to look into the matter and give feedback within seven days.
