FIVE men aged between 33 and 44 appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Lt Bongumusa Manqele said, the five men were arrested in KwaDabeka on Saturday by Pinetown Crime Intelligence operatives and National Intervention Unit members.

According to Manqele, police received information that these men were planning to rob one of the betting shops in the Pinetown area.

Police recovered three pistols, a revolver and 43 rounds of ammunition from the alleged robbers.

“The guns will be sent to ballistics to determine whether they were used in the commission of other crimes in the country,” said Manqele.

Their cases were postponed until Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 November.
