40 pets still unclaimed at SPCA

If your dog is missing, the Kloof and Highway SPCA urge you to visit its kennels and claim your beloved pet.

DURING Diwali, the festival of lights, more than 40 animals were dropped off at the Kloof and Highway SPCA.

According to Lisa Gadd, PR and outreach officer at the Kloof and Highway SPCA, of the 45 animals that were sheltered by the NPO, only one of them was injured.

“It had a broken leg and has thankfully been claimed and taken to their usual vet for treatment,”said Gadd. In total only five animals have been claimed by their families.

She said the SPCA received numerous complaints during the Diwali period and that all of the kennels at the local SPCA were full, which includes the inside and outside standby kennels.

“Every year the Kloof and Highway SPCA appeal to the community to prepare and to take steps to protect their pets during the fireworks season, and we will continue to do so,” said Gadd.

She urged owners with missing pets to go through to the Kloof and Highway SPCA and check for their animals in the kennels and not to just phone in. She said this was because the owner was the best person to identify their own pets.
