Soloists team up for Baroque concert

A rare performance of Buxtehude's lyrical and expressive Membra Jesu Nostri will be played at the Church of the Monastery in Mariannhill on Sunday 26 October.

BAROQUE 2000 will team up with six soloists of the Odeion Choir of Bloemfontein for a rare performance of Buxtehude’s lyrical and expressive Membra Jesu Nostri on Sunday 26 October at the Church of the Monastery, Mariannhill.

The concert, which starts at 3pm, will be directed by Lance Phillip, the conductor of a highly successful performance of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas with Baroque 2000 and the Ars Nova choir of Pretoria some years ago.

In the forthcoming concert Lance Phillip will also take one of the tenor parts. Buxtehude, who was revered by JS Bach, cast this work in the form of seven Cantatas on the subject of the Crucifixion.

Tickets are R120 at the door and there is ample free and safe parking.
