Pinetown petrol station bombed

For the second time in one month, a local petrol station fell victim to robberies.

TWO robbers tried to blow up the drop safe at the Caltex Caversham Motors garage in Pinetown earlier this morning.

According to the garage owner, Sydney Rosseau, CCTV footage shows two men dressed in dark clothes walk up to the drop safe, place explosives in it through the key holes and light it.

“The security [guard] heard an explosion and went to investigate. Luckily the drop safe did not open and the robbers fled the scene without anything,” said Rosseau.

He said the police, Bomb Squad, Fidelity Security and Blue Security arrived a few minutes later. SAPS is currently investigating the explosion.

Rosseau said this is the second incident within a month. There was a robbery at Caversham Motors on 20 September, and the robbers stole the auto safe.
