Robbers steal R250 000 worth of power tools

Drakewoods Pinetown was broken into on Monday 29 September.

MORE than R250 000 worth of hardware, engineering and industrial tools, were stolen during a business robbery at Drakewoods Pinetown on Monday 29 September.

According to Thaven Mudaly, owner of the business, the incident occurred at the Old Main Road premises around 2am on Monday. The alarm was triggered, Chubb Security responded and the found the business premises broken into.

The robbers gained entry through the roof of the building. They used cordless angel grinders to cut their way through the roof into the ceiling.

“These oakes knew what they were doing. They came through the kitchen ceiling and worked their way in. They used angle grinders again to cut through the main stock room wall,’ said Mudaly.

He added that he was more surprised when he learnt that they had cut off the power in the building, including all CCTV cameras, then used the power from the geyser to power up their machinery.

Mudaly said fingerprints on ceiling show someone had positioned themselves there for a while, possibly to act as a watchman, keeping an eye out for the robbers as they worked inside.

“They butchered the safe at the back of the building which holds all my business documents. They also stole stock, which is mostly Bosch and Metabo Power Tools, to the value of R250 000. The damages is another R70 000,” said Mudaly.

The incident was reported to the police and the case is currently being investigated by W/O S. Singh.

“All I want is for people to be on the lookout for my stuff. If found, please hand it in to the Pinetown police or contact me on 083 262 5961,” added Mudaly.
