Missing dog, Odin reunited with overjoyed owners

Microchipping has once again been effective in reuniting a missing dog with his owners.

It was a very emotional morning at the Kloof & Highway SPCA this morning, 3 October when missing dog, Odin was reunited with his relieved and overwhelmed owners, Lisa and David Hooley.

Odin, a Doberman cross Rottweiler cross Great Dane, went missing from Gillitts on the 9 September, when builders left the front gate of the  property open and Odin wandered off.

The Hooleys have been frantically searching for Odin and responded to every call they got about possible sightings of their beloved pet. They even hired a pilot to fly over the area in the hopes they would spot Odin somewhere. Theyalaso  held countless searches with members of the community desperate to help bring Odin home.

Yesterday afternoon there were reports on social media of a black and tan dog sitting in the centre island of the Marainhill Toll Plaza, Lisa and David shot down there but there was no sign of any dog.

A kind person had already picked up the very skinny and exhausted dog and taken him to the Kloof & Highway SPCA as a stray.  The microchip scanner was run over his body and a microchip number was picked up. It was Odin!

Lisa and David rushed to the Kloof & Highway SPCA , to be reunited with Odin.

“They never gave up hope that they would find their boy, and it has been an emotional rollercoaster that has ended with Odin being happily re-united with his family at last,” said Lisa Gadd, PR for the Kloof SPCA.

Emotions ran at an all-time high as Lisa and David hugged, kissed and scratched a shivering, shaking and talkative Odin. A bowl of food was given to him which he quickly wolfed it down.

“”Other than being very skinny and shaken up, Odin looks to be in good health. He is on his way to his usual vet with Lisa and David to have a thorough examination. Thank-you to every single community member that assisted and supported Lisa and David in their search for Odin. A very happy ending to an incredible story,” said Gadd.

“A microchip is such an incredibly quick way for an animal to be re-united with their families. Micro chipping your animals is such an effective and efficient way of successfully re-uniting animals to their rightful owners as well as proving ownership of an animal. We appeal to all pet owners to get their animals micro chipped.”
