WBHS celebrates 7-1 victory over Maritzburg

Both teams, WBHS and Maritzburg College, will be in action this weekend when they compete in the Clifton tournament.

WESTVILLE Boys’ High School’s 1st water polo team recorded a good win against Maritzburg College at the weekend.

Playing away from home, the team kicked off the summer sports programme with a 7-1 victory over Maritzburg College on Saturday.

It was evident from the start that there were two contrasting styles of play on display with WBHS opting for the mobile drop and quick swimming game and College playing the tight hard press, physical game.

WBHS were the better side from the start creating many opportunities that they unfortunately did not convert as often as they should have. Westville’s defence was the highlight of their game forcing the College team into making lots of mistakes when College went on the attack.

WBHS managed to keep the score board ticking over during the game but truth be told, the Highway’s visitors missed plenty of scoring opportunities. WBHS’s goal scorers were – Brandon Watkins (3), with Ryan Landsberg, Ryan Clark, Richard Ogg and Aden Parker scoring a goal each.

The College team never gave up and scored a late consolation goal to put them on the score board.

Both teams will be in action this weekend when they compete in the Clifton tournament.
