Two arrested for illegal firearms

The KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni welcome the arrest of two men for possession of unlicensed firearms in Hammarsdale.

TWO men were arrested in Goergedale, Mpumalanga for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Members of the Rapid Police Unit (RRPU) recovered two illegal guns in the possession of the two men aged 21 and 36 years during their operations.

According to Jay Naicker, KZN police spokesman, the police were in the Goergedale area on Tuesday morning when they received information about firearms in the area.

“They followed up on the information which led them to an identified homestead where they recovered a 9mm pistol and a 38 revolver with 12 live rounds of ammunition.

“The two men were arrested and charged for possession of illegal firearms,” said Naicker.

The KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni welcomed the good work achieved by the police during the operation as a great success.

“We appeal to the community to continue with their support in the fight against crime by providing valuable information to the police that will lead to the arrest and recovery of illegal firearms in our province,” she said.

The arrested men will appear at the Hammarsdale Magistrate Court today, facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
