Illegal firearms recovered in Mpumalanga

Two suspects have been arrested and charged for possession of illegal firearms.

Members of the Rapid Police Unit (RRPU)  have arrested two suspects, aged 21 and 36 years, and recovered two illegal firearms during a raid in Mpumalanga.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, 16 September the members were in the Georgedale area, Mpumalanga when they received information of firearms in the area.

They followed up on the information which led them to an identified homestead where they recovered a 9mm pistol and .38 revolver with 12 live rounds of ammunition.

The two suspects were arrested and charged for possession of illegal firearms.

The arrested suspects will appear at the Hamarsdale Magistrate Court today, facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni welcomed the good work achieved by the members during the operation as a great success.

“We appeal to the community members to continue with their support in the fight against crime by providing valuable information to the police that will lead to the arrest and recovery of illegal firearms in our province,” she said.
