Murder on the M7

A murder case is being investigated after a man was found stabbed on the M7.

A 50-year-old man died from stab wounds after he was found on the side of the M7 on Tuesday 19 August.

According to Bellair SAPS corporate communications officer, Dereck Vijiam, police received a call shortly after 9am on Tuesday morning after train commuters discovered the man just under a bridge along the M7.

“Community members called to inform us of a man who had been stabbed on the side of the M7, he was bleeding heavily and needed medical assistance,” said Vijiam.

On arrival, Bellair SAPS found the man to have been stabbed three times on various parts of his body and was bleeding profusely from a wound on his chest.

An ambulance was dispatched and the man was rushed to King Edward Hospital but died just as he arrived at the hospital.

The man, who was identified as Mzikayise Zindela, was believed to be returning from the Rossburgh testing grounds as forms for licence renewal were found in the backpack he carried.

“Several documents were found in the victim’s bag and that helped us identify him and inform his family of his tragic death. We are seeking the assistance of the community to help us solve this case. We encourage witnesses to come forward, even on an anonymous basis,” added Vijiam.
