Trucks collide on N3

The Jaws of Life were needed to help remove the driver from the truck.

A TRUCK driver was seriously injured when two trucks collided on the N3 Durban bound, near the Mariannhill Toll Plaza, before 11am today.

According to Garrith Jamieson, operations director for Rescue Care, the driver was trapped inside the truck when paramedics arrived at the scene.

The Fire Department used the Jaws of Life and hydraulic equipment to free the man. “Advanced Life Support paramedics stabilised the injured driver in the truck before carefully removing him once he had been freed,” said Jamieson.

When he was removed from the truck he was taken to a nearby hospital.

“At this stage it is unclear what caused the collision however the necessary authorities were on the scene and will be investigating,” said Jamieson.

He noted that traffic was severely affected as only one lane was open on the Durban bound carriageway.
