New Mej Gelofte reigns

Denise de Jongh has been crowned as this year's Mej Gelofte.

PINETOWN beauty, Denise de Jongh, was recently crowned Miss Gelofte at the school’s annual beauty pageant.

During the pageant, the 16 nominees were required to flaunt three looks; a stylish casual outfit, a flirty and fun cocktail dress as well as a breathtaking evening gown. The evening’s winner was determined by various intellectual questions posed to the top five finalists.

De Jongh was asked “If you could change one thing in world history what would that be and why?” In her response the pupils said that she would prevent the deaths of influencing leaders such as Martin Luther King and US president, John F Kennedy. “In the short while that they were alive they had made a huge impact on society and had helped facilitate positive changes. It is sad to think what an impact they would have had if they had been given more time,”she said

The humble Grade 10 pupil said she did not expect to be nominated as a contestant, let alone win the pageant. “I was honestly surprised. I did not expect it at all. I also did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did. I like fashion and make-up, but I am the type of girl that you would rather find on the sports field than in high heels,” she said.

De Jongh, who is also the only qualified rugby referee in KwaZulu-Natal, said she will use the opportunity to uphold and improve her school’s pride.
