Knife-wielding teens caught by community

Community members helped arrest two men who robbed a 13-year-old boy in Pinetown.

MEMBERS of the community apprehended two men on Old Main Road, Pinetown who robbed a 13-year-old boy yesterday.

The teenager was coming from school with his friends when they were approached by three men.

Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Lt Bongumusa Manqele said the victim had his earphones in his ears when the three men approached them and demanded cellphones.

“One of the men pulled out a knife, they allegedly searched the victim and took his cell phone from his pocket and they then fled the scene on foot.

“The two men, both aged 19 were later apprehended by the community,” he said.

Police were alerted and both men were handed over to them upon their arrival.

“The victim positively identified the men as the ones who robbed him, his cellphone was recovered and handed back to him.

The arrested men will be charged for robbery and are expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court.
