The Spar Festival in the Hills is returning to the Makaranga Gardens on 2 and 3 August from 1pm to 5pm.

Originally initiated by Hunter Murphy of Kloof Rotary, this event began 10 years ago with the idea of fostering music and song within the community. The event has grown from an afternoon event to a full weekend event with the inclusion of Art in the Hills, an exhibition running over two days in the Makaranga Convention Centre and featuring over 50 talented artists.

Three local school choirs, Kearsney College, St Marys DSG and Hillcrest High School Glee choir will perform their international repertoires that they performed at the World Choir Games in Riga, Latvia on the Saturday from 3pm to 5pm..

Sunday will see performances by the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra and massed choirs of over 300 school children conducted by Richard Cock.

The motivation behind this exciting weekend is not purely entertainment. The Rotary Club of Kloof is constantly raising funds to further projects that better the lives of those in needy circumstances in and around the Highway area. This year Citadel Wealth Management have joined with Spar in co-sponsoring the event, thus freeing up even further profits for the needy. All profits are allocated to a number of projects that require funding.

Projects undertaken by the Kloof Rotary include additional toilet facilities at Zamakhule Creche and another ablution block built at Tholulwaze High School in the Molweni Valley. At Gillits Primary School an old ablution block was converted into a much needed library for the pupils.
