HVRC slams past competition

A local rugby club won both of its first division games against the Ballito Dolphins at the weekend.

IN its last KZNRU first division encounter, the Hillcrest Villagers’ Rugby Club trounced the Ballito Dolphins in both games at the weekend.

The HVRC’s 2nd team won its match 55-7 and its 1st team nabbed a 31-3 victory. The Villagers’ 1st and 2nd XVs finished fourth overall in the KZNRU first and first division reserve leagues. Rene Missen, chairman of the club said that this win cemented the group as being the strongest Highway based rugby club. The Villagers’ will begin to compete in the Murray Cup Knockout Tournament.

In an earlier encounter, Villagers’ U19 Development XV beat the uShaka Worriers from Mandeni. Last Friday evening the Villagers’ third team lost to the Varsity College Old Boys third XV. Despite the loss, the team finished third in the KZNRU fourth division.

“Our 1st and 2nd XVs had a very unsettled start to the season, but with four straight wins in the last four weeks of the season, we left the best till last. This showed that we can easily beat any side within the first division,” said Rene.
