Pinetown couple threatened with garden fork

An elderly couple was verbally threatened and robbed by a garden fork-wielding man and his accomplice.

AN elderly couple was tied up, robbed and left traumatised after two armed men broke into their home in Pinetown on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Sharon Jenkins, of the Pine Ridge Neighbourhood Watch, the two robbers, one armed with a gun and the other with a garden fork, entered the couple’s property at approximately 2pm, by jumping over the wall.

Their first target was the gardener, whom they overpowered and managed to restrain with cable ties. Then they entered the couple’s home and also tied them up.

According to Jenkins, the couple was verbally threatened and abused by the robbers, but no one was seriously injured.

“They were in the couple’s home for about 45 minutes to an hour. A gun was held against the husband’s head, as the second robber rifled through their cupboards and belongings,” she said.

The robbers fled the scene with the couple’s vehicle, a laptop, jewellery and cell phones.

It was also reported that the garden fork used to threaten and subdue the couple was stolen from their yard several week’s ago.

ER24 was called to the scene to examine the couple’s vitals. The Pine Ridge Neighbourhood Watch also provided them with some counselling.
