HILLCREST High School’s Tyleene Smith missed the Mandela Day activities last year so this year she chose to do a week’s worth of activities in Madiba’s memory during the last week of her school holidays.
Gathering her friends, Chloe Brown and Ruth Tsela, the three girls assisted the Robin Hood Foundation with packing and handing out parcels to the elderly at several old age homes.
They also helped with the packing of the ‘Gogo bags’ that the Foundation hands out regularly to households headed by grandmothers.
On Mandela Day they spent the day at several crèches, handed out parcels to young children, played games and read stories to them.
