DA sweeps Ward 18 by-election

DA celebrates a 91.17 per cent victory for Ward 18.

THE new Ward 18 councillor is Bruce Sutcliffe from the Democratic Alliance (DA) after it retained the ward following the by-election yesterday.

According to former Ward 18 councillor, Tim Brauteseth, the DA retained the ward with 5038 votes leading to a 91.17 per cent majority. The ANC only managed to rake up 488 votes which led them to 9.83 per cent.

The DA received 94.21 per cent of the votes at Westville Athletic Club and the ANC received 5.79 per cent.

The DA received 95.7 per cent of the votes at Atholl Heights Primary School and the ANC received 4.31 per cent.

The DA received 71.27 per cent of the votes at Pinetown Civic Centre and the ANC received 28.73 per cent.

The DA received 95.98 per cent of the votes at the Cowies Hill Hall and the ANC received 4.02 per cent.

The DA received 96.45 per cent of the votes at the Gelofte Skool while the ANC received 3.55 per cent.

The DA received 97.87 per cent of the votes at Avon Junior Primary School while the ANC received 2.13 per cent.

Sutcliffe is the brother of former city manager, Mike Sutcliffe. He is also a qualified accountant who has done work for 14 small municipalities across KwaZulu-Natal, helping them put accounting and debt collection systems in place. He said he is very happy about the results.

“This proves that the DA is becoming stronger. We increased our support by 14 per cent from the previous year’s election of 77.5 per cent to this year’s 91.2 per cent. I look forward to working with the people in Ward 18,” said Sutcliffe.
