Pinetown driver dodges death shot

A quick-thinking resident escaped a potentially fatal incident, unharmed.

A NEW GERMANY resident bravely escaped an attempted hijacking in Pinetown on Wednesday, 11 June at approximately 4pm.

Sharon Jenkins, of the Pine-Ridge Neighbourhood Watch, reported that the incident occurred when the victim drove up to her friend’s home on Frara Drive.

“As she looked into her rear view mirror she spotted a black Toyota Yaris pull up behind her, and three men exiting the vehicle. She immediately began closing her automatic window, but one of the men, in an attempt to grab her car keys, managed to stick his hand inside before the window closed,” said Jenkins.

At that moment she noticed that the hijacker had a 9mm gun pointed at her head. She immediately ducked as the man fired, narrowly missing the bullet.

It is believed that the bullet cracked the window; freeing the shooter. They fled the scene and the woman was able to drive away, unscathed.

The Ashley Resident’s Neighbourhood Watch also reported two armed men hijacked a silver Toyota Corolla on Victory Drive on Thursday, 12 June, and sped off towards Mariannhill Park.

Pinetown Police were on scene and are investigating the incident.
