One dead in Mariannhill truck-taxi smash

Mariannhill SAPS is looking for witnesses to assist in an accident that occurred on Monday morning in Wilshire Road.

ONE person died and nine others were injured when a truck collided with a taxi on Wilshire Road, Mariannhill.

Mariannhill SAPS communications officer, Captain Linton Harold said the accident happened at 8.30am on Monday.

“One person died and another passenger was trapped and had to be freed by the fire department. The seriously injured were taken to St Mary’s and RK Khan Hospital. People with minor injuries were treated on the scene. The driver of the truck was also taken to hospital,” said Harold.

A case of reckless and negligent driving was registered at Mariannhill SAPS.

Harold is appealing to any witnesses to come forward to assist with the investigations. Anyone with information can contact the Community Service Centre on 031 717 2090/91.
