Pinetown man robbed at intersection

Two men robbed a a Pinetown resident of his wallet and cell phone at knife point.

A PINETOWN man is still dealing with the trauma of a violent encounter after he was set upon by a pair of brazen criminals on Monday.

Paul Jacquin was attacked on Crompton Street at approximately 5.20pm. He was on his way home from work when the incident occurred. He had stopped at the intersection of Crompton Street and Chancery Lane when two men approached his vehicle.

The two men, one armed with a knife and the other with a gun, yanked open the door, switched of his ignition and pulled him out of the vehicle.

“While they held me at knife point they demanded that I give them money, and threatened to kill me if I did not comply. Luckily I had my old wallet in the car and gave them the empty old wallet, but they also took my brand new cell phone before they fled, ” said Jacquin.

He also reported that there were approximately three vehicles in front of him and several behind him when he was robbed. “No one tried to assist me, or stop the men. I don’t blame them, as I would assume that they were also scared. People in the area are being terrorised by these criminals,” said Jacquin.

After the incident Jacquin drove straight to the Pinetown Police station to report the incident.

The men were reportedly cleanly dressed, but also seemed to be under the influence of drugs. “They spoke very slowly and seemed to struggle to articulate their words,” said Jacquin.

Crompton Street and its surrounds have become known as a notorious mugging and smash-and-grab hot spot.
