Five killed in horror crash
Rescue Care and other emergency services rushed to Old Richmond Road to rescue as many people as possible from the blaze.
FIVE people died and two were critically injured when two vehicles collided along Old Richmond Road in KwaNdangezi, just outside of Mariannhill, at 5am this morning.
According to Garrith Jamieson, media spokesman for Rescue Care, paramedics arrived at scene and found the two badly damaged vehicles obstructing the road. He said one vehicle had burnt out completely and the fire department was busy extinguishing the blaze.
“Paramedics did a quick survey and two people had died after the initial impact and were unable to escape the burning vehicle. Another five people were critically injured, however three other people died at the scene despite the efforts of the paramedics. The two remaining critically injured people were stabilised before being taken to a nearby hospital.
The cause of the accident is unknown at this stage but SAPS is investigating.
