A man in his late 20’s appeared at the Pinetown Magistrate’s court on charges of rape and murder.

A MALE in his late 20’s was arrested on Wednesday 12 February at approximately 9am on charges of rape and murder.

It is alleged that the accused went to the Pinetown SAPS where he made a statement regarding the death of a female. It is believed that the woman was murdered on Saturday 25 January on the M7 Queensburgh bound before the Winston Church Hill turn off. Her body was discovered by a pedestrian lying next to the road.

“The man was subsequently taken to a commission officer’s office where he made a confession statement. He was later taken to RK Khan Hospital for DNA evidence and was then detained at Pinetown SAPS,” said Const Lungile Mbatha, of the Pinetown SAPS.

The man appeared at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Friday 21 February. Despite several attempts, the Highway Mail could not get a comment from the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court or the Pinetown SAPS regarding the outcome of the court hearing.
