Abi Ray to swim eight miles for charity

Abi Ray and her brother to swim the Midmar Mile eight times!

RADIO personality Abi Ray and her brother, Bradford, are undertaking the incredible feat of doing all eight events at this year’s Midmar Mile to raise money for charity.

They will complete four races on Saturday, 8 February and four on Sunday, 9 February.

The brother and sister team swam last year’s Midmar Mile and, on completion of the one mile race, discussed how mad they thought the eight milers were. “This year we are now part of that crazy crew! It is in aid of a very good cause so all the hours of training and the sweat and tears on the day, will be worth it’’, she said

Bradford and Abi aim to raise R15 000 each for the Red Cap Foundation’s three amazing projects – Young Heroes, Red Cap Schools and Jumpstart.

The Young Heroes project is making a difference in the lives of primary school children from low-income communities, by giving them an opportunity to develop a healthy lifestyle and a passion for regular exercise from an early age. ‘’On the days that the project is run at a school, the rate of absenteeism drops significantly. The children are excited about learning about sport and healthy living’’, said Abi.

The aim of the Red Cap Schools is to create sustained improvement in the overall performance of learners at selected primary schools, instead of only focussing on particular subjects.

JumpStart is a direct response to the national challenge of youth unemployment. The lack of experiential training plays a major role in the growing number of unemployed youth in our country. The JumpStart project literally provides a “jump start” to young people and helps them gain the much needed skills to access the job market.

Setzkorn Health and Wealth Consulting has donated R2000 to Abi Ray’s 8 miler fundraising campaign and encourage other individuals and businesses to make a contribution.

It doesn’t matter how big or small the donation is simply visit https://www.givengain.com/activist/90371/projects/7299/ and follow the instructions to make a donation.
