School uses small change to big effect for rhinos

Saturn Pre-Primary continues its efforts to alleviate rhino poaching.

ANGELA Lang, a teacher at Saturn Pre-Primary in Westville, will be continuing her fundraising initiatives to help alleviate rhino poaching.

Last year, the humble little school managed to raise over R7 000 which they donated towards this worthy cause.

Parents, teachers and tots were asked to donate their small change towards the school’s initiative. An auction was also held, during which the school’s famous stuffed animal, Woza, was sold for R3000. Woza’s fame developed as the children from Lang’s class would take turns to take him home over weekends and holidays.

This year, parents and teachers are once again encouraged to donate their ‘brown money.’ Lang said, “We also encourage residents who are not apart of the school to donate their change.” Folozy, a stuffed rhino, will also be auctioned off at the end of the year.

“We have only been back one week, but the parents and teachers have already started donating. The children continued to collect money during the holidays. One parent brought in a 1.5litre bottle filled with change. A gentleman, who is not a parent at the school also donated a roasting tray full of change,” said Lang.

The funds raised by Saturn Pre-Primary will be donated to East Coast Radio’s Rhino Watch Project.
